About the Role

The purpose of the Child and Family Practitioner role is to provide skilled casework support to children and young people in family-based care arrangements and offer outreach support to young individuals in the community. The focus also includes carer support and care regulation. The role involves collaborating with foster carers, children, government agencies, and stakeholders to develop and implement personalized care plans to meet TAS government standards and ensure the well-being of children and young people.
This position is a Permanent Full-time role located at our office in Burnie. The successful candidate will receive a Tool of Trade vehicle with a fuel card that can be parked at their private residence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake child-focused casework practice in collaboration with government agencies, children, families, carers, and stakeholders.
  • Work with carers in a CARE informed manner to understand the impact of trauma, loss, neglect, and abuse on children and young people.
  • Implement the CARE model in daily interactions with children to help them build trust, develop life skills, form relationships, and enhance resilience.
  • Enhance carer skills in involving children in decision-making and supporting them to reach their full potential.
  • Engage in case management activities as required by specific contracts or funding agreements.
  • Participate in negotiations with the government agency to ensure that each child receives stable care.

Skills & Experience

  • Hold recognized Social Work qualifications eligible for AASW membership or a Bachelor's degree in Psychology or relevant field.
  • Prior experience in child protection and out-of-home care.
  • Experience working with individuals, families, and communities from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective within the out-of-home care sector.
  • Ability to identify strengths and areas for growth while providing foster care with a focus on permanency for children in care.
  • Experience collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

Selected candidates must pass probity checks, including a National Criminal History Record Check, and obtain Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People Registration.
