Job description:

Our client, a Federal Government Agency, is looking for a

Research Technician - Metallurgical Laboratory Technician, to join their team. This role supports Research Scientists and Team Leaders in undertaking projects by preparing materials for experimental purposes, undertaking, or assisting with the operation of experimental equipment and in some cases assisting with laboratory procedures.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertaking laboratory tests on mineral ore samples
  • Participating in laboratory and pilot scale experimental work in the area of mineral processing
  • Collecting and processing experimental data on an ongoing basis to a high degree of accuracy
  • Preparing data and reports for internal customers
  • Communicating effectively and respectfully with all staff, clients, and suppliers in the interest of good business practice, collaboration, and enhancement of the Agency's reputation
  • Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary research team, and business unit to carry out tasks in support of the Agency's scientific objectives
  • Adhering to the spirit and practice of the Agency's Code of Conduct, Health, Safety and Environment procedures and policy, Diversity initiatives and Making Safety Personal goals
  • Demonstrated experience in a relevant laboratory environment
  • Demonstrated competencies with wet and dry screening, filtration and drying
  • Demonstrated ability to observe and record analytical data to a high degree of accuracy in strict adherence to establish procedures
  • Selfstarter with the ability to work in a team environment, utilise resource effectively, meet deadlines, and adapt to a dynamic work environment while maintaining work quality and performance
  • Welldeveloped oral and written communication skills demonstrated by an ability to comprehend and convey detailed instructions/procedures


Ideally you will have a technical certificate or equivalent qualification in a relevant science discipline as well as work experience in the minerals industry.

Demonstrated hands-on ability to conduct laboratory and pilot scale experiments, to prepare feed materials, to collect and analyse test data, and to interpret and report results to supervisors.

Permanent work rights are a requirement of this role.
