Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Central Coast Public Health Unit of the Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD).

Applicants should be a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) which is a Faculty of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians

Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030.

The Local Health District has strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.


This is a maternity relief position and should the permanent incumbent require an early return from maternity leave, this contract of employment will cease with two weeks notice.

Maternity relief positions can be for a period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of continued employment for up to a further 12 months for maternity leave reduced hours, therefore there are no claims to permanency.

NSW Health does not require or accept the 'Fit2Work badge' offered as an option in eCredential.

  • Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia. Unrestricted driver's licence.
  • Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM), Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and/or other equivalent specialist recognition. (Applicants expecting to be awarded their fellowship within three months may be considered. If successful the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of core Public Health Unit functions including communicable disease control, immunisation, public health policy and practice, environmental health, emergency management, epidemiology and a population health approach to health services.
  • Ability to work constructively and effectively in a Multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead Public Health Unity, (PHU) staff in events including but not limited to outbreak management, health risk assessment and public health emergency response.
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous quality improvement and ensuring the PHU provides the best service possible.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how the District is caring for the Coast, with demonstrated behaviours which align to the NSW CORE values and CCLHD Values and Behaviours charter.
