Sydney, New South Wales, Australia MicroTau Full time

Position Commencement:
Immediate

Location:
Sydney, but remote work will be

About Us:

MicroTau uses nature's greatest designs to solve the hardest human problems.

We are bringing together innovations in biomimicry, materials, advanced manufacturing, hydrodynamics and aerodynamics, and we want you to be a part of it.

We're creating a 'shark skin' for the aviation and marine industries that can save billions in fuel costs and megatonnes in carbon emissions.

We're already helping Top Gun pilots to fly faster, but we need your help to deliver our technology to operators and manufacturers of the world's fastest yachts, the largest container ships, and the most advanced submarines.

The Role:

As Marine Product Manager you will own the development of MicroTau's first marine product. You will be our marine industry expert, with a deep understanding of our customers, their needs, and pain-points. You'll continually translate these into clearly defined problems for the technical team to solve.

We're looking for someone inspiring and insightful who can work with both internal and external stakeholders.

As we ramp up our marine work, you will have the opportunity to shape the structure of your product team and identify the highest value partners and milestones to hit.

What Success Looks Like:

Your mission is to own and drive the development of MicroTau's marine product from proof-of-concept to a successful demonstration on a customer's vessel by the end of 2023.

In the first month, you will work side by side with our marine materials chemist to develop a deep understanding of our marine product, and you will take ownership of MicroTau's current marine customer and partner relationships.

You'll be out and about, visiting marinas, boat shows and talking shop with owners, operators and maintainers.

You will take the lead on product development and drive your cross-functional product team. After 6 months, the team will be regularly making prototypes and field testing these with customers.

You'll have built out a network of customers and will lock-in our partner of choice for a product demonstration on a customer vessel.

You will have the opportunity to update and optimise the composition of the team as you progress to ensure we have the right people solving the challenges presented at each stage of development.

Responsibilities:

- _Form_ and drive a cross-functional team to develop and test prototypes, with a key focus on accountability.

  • Define customer and business needs for MicroTau's first marine product.
  • Maintain clear, relevant and uptodate product requirements to empower the technical and engineering team members to create successful product solutions.
  • Jump in with both feet You'll engage and foster relationships with vessel owners, marina operators, maintenance personnel, and distributors.
  • Understand and assess the marine market, with a focus on identifying local opportunities that align with MicroTau's objectives.
  • Manage, grow and maintain MicroTau's network of marine customers to maximise the value of these relationships.
  • Effectively communicate our product and its value to customers.
  • Ensure product development proceeds at pace, with a willingness to get hands on if necessary.

About You:

  • 3+ years professional experience.
  • Passionate and active in the marine industry, professionally and/or personally.
  • Customer oriented, to the extreme
  • A demonstrated ability to build relationships. You're comfortable communicating with customers, operators, maintenance providers and manufacturers at all levels.
  • You can communicate effectively with technical team members and are experienced in managing crossfunctional teams to deliver results. Background or previous experience in STEM would be highly valuable.
  • Experienced in product development or project management.
  • Resourceful, resilient and determined. You'll take an 'all hands on deck' approach and commit your time, skills and creativity to tasks outside of your domain.
  • You are not afraid to rock the boat.

Who We Are:

MicroTau prints nature's surfaces to solve human problems.

Taking inspiration from the animal world's most creative (and deadly) engineers, we are making the materials that will make our world a faster, cleaner, and greener place.

Our ambition is to put 'shark skin' film on planes, saving
US$20 billion in fuel and
92 million tonnes of CO2 emissions _every year_.

To get us there, we're working with the largest aviation manufacturers and operators in the world. Our product can help aircraft fly further and faster, carry greater payloads, and perform tighter, faster manoeuvres.

We've invented and built the manufacturing technology to do this, and are even developing other biomimetic surfaces with self-cleaning and anti-fouling properties.

These have the potential to create a further
$US14 billion of value and reduce emissions
