***The Junior Rowing Coordinator assists the Head of Rowing (HOR) in the development and
implementation of the School's rowing programme. The Junior Rowing Coordinator will uphold the
Ruyton Community Code of Conduct and support Ruyton girls in training and competing with a high
level of sportsmanship and support for their peers.

Rowing duties will occur during the rowing season, commencing in Term 3 each year, and concluding
at the completion of Term 1 the following. Hours of work may vary each week.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Ruyton has a responsive organisational culture and, as such, this role may be altered to adapt to the
evolving needs of the School. The responsibilities of the Junior Rowing Coordinator may include but

are not limited to:

Coaching

  • Attending and coaching at relevant training sessions as outlined by the HOR
  • Assist HOR with planning and management of rowing camps including the training programme and
daily schedule

  • Ensuring teaching of a technique consistent with current Victorian and Australian ideals for all
Ruyton crews

  • Providing a rowing programme that develops each rower to the best of their ability and maintains
the School culture of inclusivity and endeavour

  • Assisting the HOR in the design of training programmes for the Squad
  • Liaising with other coaches in setting and reviewing the training programme
  • Attending all scheduled Regattas and driving the School utility, rowing trailer and mini bus
  • Any other duties requested by the School.

Crew Selection

  • Liaising with other coaches to assist the HOR to make crew selection choices
  • Recommending to the HOR the final selection of Crews for the Head of Schoolgirls Regatta and
nominations for rowing awards.

Safety and Compliance

  • The Junior Rowing Coordinator has a leadership position within the coaching team and as such is
expected to help foster a team atmosphere

  • Regularly seeks input from other coaches (where appropriate) to increase their affinity with the
programme and commitment to the School

  • Reporting on issues arising from coaching team to the HOR
  • Managing a smooth transition period for new or replacement coaches in consultation with the
HOR.

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A calm, friendly and professional manner
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Ability to juggle a variety of tasks and competing priorities and work in a busy environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong technical skills
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Able to aid and assist all members of the Ruyton community in a friendly, helpful, and timely
manner

  • Proven ability to coach in an inclusive and dynamic team culture
  • Discretion, reliability, and confidentiality
  • Proven knowledge of the Victorian School regatta system.

Desirable Criteria

  • Proven track record of success in Rowing coaching at secondary school or elite level, with
experience coaching junior athletes.

Qualifications and Training

  • National Coaching Accreditation Scheme Level
  • Hold and maintain Working with Children Check
Training

  • Child Safety Training, including Mandatory Reporting provided by the School with our provider
CompliSpace.
