Anglican Youthworks Christian Outdoor Education Team is seeking a Training Manager to join us.


The position is predominately based at our Anglican Youthworks Port Hacking Centre, situated in the beautiful Royal National Park, just outside Sutherland.

This is a permanent full-time role and includes overnights and weekends as required.


As the Christian Outdoor Education Training Manager, you will manage and lead - motivating and maintaining the spirit, vision and focus of the Training team.

Oversee and have responsibility for all aspects of the Christian Outdoor Education training environment including but not limited to areas such as safety, risk management, facilitation of training programs, RTO compliance, and relevant equipment maintenance.

Anglican Youthworks Christian Outdoor Education leads the way in professional Christian Outdoor Education.

Through the practise of temporary community, the passionate, enthusiastic, and highly skilled team use outdoor learning experiences to bring together bible-based discipleship and outdoor education in a unique and powerful way.


The team is made up of a talented bunch of people who love Jesus, seek adventure in the outdoors and believe that not all lessons are best taught in the classroom.

They are just as passionate about Christian ministry to young people as they are about adventurous experiences in God's creation.


Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Lead the day to day including but not limited to addressing any questions / problems and finding solutions; lead team/task related meetings including communicating updates on best practices and continuing expectations; develop strategies to promote team members adherence to Youthworks' and industry regulations and performance goals; and overall responsibility and leadership of the team through rostering, training, supervising, mentoring and performance monitoring of COE Training staff
  • Training and evaluating of Christian Outdoor Education staff.
  • Act as a resource and guide for the Christian Outdoor Education Trainees and the Outdoor Ministry Leaders
  • Train Christian Outdoor Educators in biblically sound and ageappropriate discussions, debriefs, and teachable moments
  • Provide training and instruction in relation to providing opportunities for biblically sound and ageappropriate salvation moments
  • Plan all relevant training and assessments to be Australian Quality Training Framework compliant meeting industry standards and regulations
  • Accurately maintain and keep up to date relevant records, as well as conduct training and assessments as needed, to ensure Youthworks RTO status is compliant with the relevant legislation and guidelines
  • Assist the 'Head' in maintaining currency of risk management documentation including but not limited to facilitating design of Standards & Procedures, Risk Management Plans and Lesson Plans; as well as regular compliance auditing.
  • Qualifications in Outdoor Education (Certificate IV level or higher). Specific activity qualifications in the areas of bushwalking, canoeing, and roping, at a minimum.
  • Qualifications (current) in First Aid and Water Rescue
  • Qualifications (current) in Remote or Wilderness First Aid
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Proven knowledge of Industry and Safety Standards
  • Experience in leading best practice outdoor programs
  • A thorough understanding of, and rigorous approach to, risk assessment and management
  • Personal Christian faith and willingness to work within an Anglican organisation

What we would really like you to have:

  • Qualifications in Theology
  • Diploma or above
  • Previous RTO administration experience
  • Understanding of VET Quality Framework
  • Light Rigid Licence
  • Mental Health First Aider certification
Current drivers' licence and own transport are essential.
