The Rockhampton Grammar School is looking for a dedicated professional to fill the position of Head of Library

  • Role Description:
  • Foster a culture of reading, research, and information literacy within the school community.
  • Combine librarian responsibilities with teaching and educational leadership.

The Rockhampton Grammar School, established in 1881, is currently seeking a full-time Head of Library to join their team. The school offers a supportive and flexible working environment where staff well-being is a top priority. This role is key to promoting reading, research, and digital literacy skills among students.

  • Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Deputy Headmaster, the Head of Library will:

  • Collaborate with educators, students, and administrators to support the school's curriculum.
  • Develop instructional programmes to enhance classroom learning objectives.
  • Select and acquire resources that align with the curriculum and student needs.
  • Promote reading through various initiatives and events.
  • Teach information literacy skills and promote digital citizenship.
  • Stay updated on best practices in the library and education sectors.
  • Lead and manage library operations and services efficiently.
  • Advocate for the library's role in education within the school and beyond.
  • Participate in school and professional networks for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for children and young people.

  • Required Skills/Experience:

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • ALIA accredited Library and Information qualifications.
  • QCT registration or eligibility to obtain it.
  • Strong knowledge of library systems, digital resources, and educational technology.
  • Passion for promoting reading and information literacy.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technologies and educational trends.

  • Knowledge, Experience, and Attributes:

Specialist knowledge in information literacy, resource management, and library leadership.

  • Skill in promoting reading and fostering a love of literature.
  • Understanding of the Australian Curriculum and teaching in a secondary class.
  • Active involvement in professional networks for ongoing learning.
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills for a student-centered environment.
  • Willingness to assist with library duties outside regular hours.
