The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make it easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses to interact with government.

We're working to connect and digitise our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

About the role

The Financial Accounting and Reporting Lead position is responsible for providing considered and authoritative advice on the establishment of finance processes, system requirements and compliance with legislative and government obligations for the Department of Government Services.

Leading a small team to establish and embed these objectives, you will also be a senior point of contact for key stakeholders in facilitating a professional, customer-oriented service to DPC and DTF stakeholders.

For specific responsibilities please review the attached position description. About the role

  • Exceptional financial skills and demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial analysis and commercial modelling. This includes the ability to clearly articulate the financial implications of policy decisions and/or other transactions and the provision of advice to senior management on budget, commercial and financial management issues to facilitate strategic decision making.
  • Ability to provide authoritative advice related to the Financial Management Act 1994, Standing Directions of the Minister for Finance (as updated and amended from time to time) and other obligations related to a public service employer.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting a technical environment to lead and support validation of Finance policy and process requirements to enable outcomes. Strong business acumen and ability to think on your feet combined with robust problemsolving skills to drive the right outcomes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including in the preparation of submissions, reports, succinct briefings, and the ability to adapt communication of complex information to the needs of diverse audiences.
