About the Role:

As the Lead Estimator, you will be responsible for leading the estimating function for company and customer-initiated projects, ensuring all aspects of cost and risk have been considered on each individual project. You will be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the estimating process, along with maintaining a database of costs and rates.

We are looking for someone with strong analytical skills, who understands construction projects, has excellent attention to detail, and who has a strong willingness to learn.

For the right candidate with the right skills this role could evolve into a Project Development Manager position.

You'll work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure all estimating activities are delivered on time and with precision, paving the way for successful project execution.

You will work with internal stakeholders, ensuring project estimating activities are delivered on time and that all projects are costed with clarity that will enable successful delivery. Ensuring every cost and risk factor is meticulously accounted for, maintaining and continuously improving our estimating process, and overseeing a comprehensive database of costs and rates.

This role will report to the Head of Project Development as part of the AusNet Portfolio Development, Development and Future Networks division, - with a base location at Southbank.

This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

Delivery of estimation activities to ensure on time completion. Provide project estimation leadership on Customer and Company initiated projects across AusNet's Development and Future Networks division, focused mainly on contestable (non-regulated) projects. Apply project development and delivery knowledge to ensure accurate estimating. Collate feedback from previously delivered projects (post implementation reviews) which will serve as input into new project estimates. Develop and maintain a project estimation library and track the discrepancy of actual costs to estimated costs. Provide support to address Requests for Information as required during the project lifecycle. Be a Subject Matter Expert in the field of Estimation. Support the Connections Infrastructure management teams by providing mentoring, informal training, and support to less experienced team members. Identify opportunities to develop new and update existing estimating approaches.

You don't need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

Diploma or Degree in Project Management or other relevant discipline preferred Extensive experience working in engineering, estimation, construction, project delivery and/or design role. Civil and/or electrical experience preferred Proficiency in expert estimation software. Advanced Excel is required at a minimum Possess organizing, analytical, evaluative and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to liaise with project related teams such as project development managers, delivery project managers, construction contractors, land, environment, and planning Excellent understanding of the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, Experience in the application of the various Microsoft software packages
