The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced People & Development (Human Resources) Manager to join our fast-paced, dynamic P&D team, located in Sydney on a permanent basis.

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager - P&D Generalists, the P&D Manager is responsible for driving the delivery of effective people strategy, initiatives and operations across the partner and employee life cycle within the Sydney office and across national practice groups. Key to this, is providing strategic business partnering to relevant stakeholders, including the Sydney Partner in Charge, on all people matters to support the achievement of the strategic goals and objectives of the Firm. Working closely with other P&D Managers and the broader P&D team, the Sydney P&D Manager plays a critical contributing role in leading the P&D team to deliver high performance.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 2 - 4 years' experience in a human resources manager-level role, with fine-tuned business and financial acumen and the ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Ability to lead, manage and drive high employee performance, as well as coach and mentor team members.
  • Capability in planning, organising, managing and delivering projects in a timely manner.
  • Experience in advising on and managing employment relation matters with a strong degree of autonomy.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to communicate with impact to both internal and external stakeholders and staff members at all levels.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources or related discipline.
  • Technical capabilities in Microsoft suite and people metrics (as well as desirable experience using Workday HRIS).
  • Experience in legal industry is highly desirable (or alternatively professional services).

In addition to this, you will be a resilient leader, who is able to work to tight deadlines and time constraints. Someone who is adaptable and enjoys working autonomously and leading a high-performing team. Your strengths will be balancing your focus on detail while also providing an outstanding service and working towards the longer-term strategic goals of the firm.

The National People & Development team

With a presence in all our major offices, the National People and Development (P&D) team advises the business on all people initiatives, including talent management, employee relations, resourcing, recruitment (both graduate and lateral), remuneration, benefits, reporting and learning and organisational development.
