About the Role

The Research Assistant will contribute to grant-funded research under the guidance of the Head: Molecular Pathology Research Laboratory to achieve specific objectives and test provided hypotheses focusing on screening for cancer predisposition genes, specifically for blood cancers like leukemias and lymphomas, and conducting functional studies to comprehend the genetics-related changes.

About the Centre for Cancer Biology

The Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB) is a collaboration between the University of South Australia and CALHN, situated alongside other cancer-focused researchers in a specialized building within Adelaide's Biotech and Medical Precinct. The CCB investigates the root causes of cancer to develop innovative approaches for prevention and treatment, serving as a renowned center for cutting-edge scientific research leading to revolutionary therapies.

Core Responsibilities
  • Contribute to research planning through literature reviews, attending seminars, participating in planning sessions, and conducting pilot studies
  • Aid in executing research by engaging in data production, experiment designing, and contributing to the dissemination of findings through reports, abstracts, and scientific papers
  • Promote a secure and ethical work environment
Essential Skills and Experience

  • Honours degree in biotechnology, genetics, cell and molecular biology, developmental biology, biochemistry, immunology, or related field
  • Proficiency in cell culture, animal models, and molecular biology techniques
  • Experience in laboratory management
  • Expertise in relevant research areas, literature, and laboratory procedures
  • Ability to record, analyze, present, and disseminate research data effectively
