About the team:


The Chemical and Biological Metrology Branch provides measurement standards such as certified reference materials, which include pure chemicals, gas standards, matrix materials and DNA standards.

The branch also co-ordinates proficiency testing programs to assist laboratories assess their ongoing quality and performance. The branch houses three of Australia's national testing laboratories for sports anti-doping control, forensic drugs and ultra-trace analysis.

The branch delivers services across all of these fields and carries out research and development to enhance our capabilities in line with national and international requirements.


The
Chemical Reference Materials Section provides pure organic substance reference materials across a range of sectors such as agrichemicals and anti-doping.

The team has documented procedures for the sourcing, synthesis, purification, characterisation and certification of materials in compliance with international best practice and is NATA accredited to ISO The team maintains a collection of 500 + standards and is continually evolving its collection to meet stakeholder needs.

- a degree in chemistry or related discipline
- experience with analytical instrumentation such as GC-FID/LC-UV/ELSD/CAD, KF titration and TGA
- understanding of purity assignment and measurement uncertainty
- experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- experience with ampouling reference materials
- customer service experience including using the FileMaker Pro database, or willingness to gain knowledge in the Filemaker Pro database.

What you will do:

Key tasks include:

  • Operate and trouble shoot analytical instrumentation, including HPLC with UV detection, GC-FID and Karl Fischer titration.
  • Prepare organic calibration standards for sale to clients in accordance with a documented quality system.
  • Undertake data analysis in Excel workbooks and update certificates of analysis using Microsoft Word.
  • Maintain documented records of scientific and administrative work.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and general housekeeping.
  • Processing customer orders using the FileMaker Pro database.
  • Maintain a safe working environment adhering to onsite safety rules and regulations.
