Medical Laboratory Technician
Grade 1/2:
Located in Anatomical Pathology The Alfred (will transition to Northern Health)
The Department
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to join a hospital based Anatomical Pathology team. The position is a full time, Monday-Friday. Rosters will include rotating day shifts through lab sections and occasional Saturday shifts. This position is associated with Alfred Pathology's current provision of Anatomical Pathology services to Northern Health.
This service and associated positions will ultimately transition to Northern Pathology Victoria to form their new Anatomical Pathology team operating from a new laboratory based at The Northern Hospital.
The Role
You will be responsible for tasks such as specimen reception, specimen send outs, assisting at specimen cut-up, specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, special stains, frozen sections, IHC, cytology prep, record filing, reagent preparation, equipment maintenance and general laboratory tasks.
Skills
- Minimum qualifications are a diploma of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory), Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Technology, or equivalent
- Previous experience in a pathology laboratory and with histological techniques is highly desirable. Experience must be directly related to this role, providing knowledge and skills to successfully perform the duties required
- Organised with high attention to detail with ability to work within a team environment
