The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory located at Austin Hospital, is seeking a
Fixed-term Medical Laboratory Technician Grade 1 to work as part of our team.

The laboratory operates 7 day per week on a rotating roster.

This role is focused on providing SARS-CoV-2 molecular testing services with the expectation that the successful applicant may perform other tests/duties in the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.


About the role:

  • Perform Molecular Diagnostic testing according to documented procedures and protocols
  • Read, interpret and validate test results including identifying and rectifying problems. Issue laboratory reports in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the internal quality control and external quality assurance activities of the Molecular Diagnostics Service.
  • Participate in the maintenance of the laboratory equipment.

About you:

  • To be considered for this role you will need to possess at least an Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Medical Science) Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Operations or equivalent.
  • Handson experience in a NATA accredited laboratory performing DNA/RNA extraction and Real-Time PCR is highly desirable for this position.
  • The ability to work in a team and independently utilising state of the art technology will be highly regarded.
