AFP BAND & SALARY - Band 01, $ $33.27 per hour (which is inclusive of a 20% casual loading), plus 15.

4% superannuation

Role


Applications are sought from first year law students or applicants with exposure to a legal practice environment wishing to be considered for the role of paralegal.


The Chief Counsel Portfolio has casual work opportunities commencing in the summer break, for applicants who are seeking paralegal work in Canberra.

You would gain experience working in a government legal practice that manages complex and sensitive, law enforcement, national security and civil litigation matters.

have a good traffic history; and

are confident in passing the AFP Employment Suitability Questionnaire (ESQ) and security vetting gateways to achieve a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance, including passing initial and periodic drug tests.


You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.

It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

The key duties of the position are initially within the practice management team and may include:
performing general administration and file maintenance, including file opening and closing and data entry;
answering the Legal Hotline;
assisting with monitoring financial aspects of outsourced matters;
assisting with maintaining AFP Legal's procedure manuals; and
undertaking project and research work.
Essential Requirements

A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Excellent team orientation and a positive attitude.
Effective time management skills to meet assigned deadlines
Good oral and written communication skills.
The professional maturity to work in a high pressure and high security environment.
