The Queensland Museum's First Nations team is seeking a caring and compassionate Senior Repatriation Officer, Female to join the team and provide specialist expertise around the respectful repatriation of female Ancestral Remains, Secret Sacred Objects, and cultural materials.

It is a genuine occupational requirement for this position to be filled by an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander person, as permitted by andarguable under, Sections 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.The Queensland Museum is the custodian of the state's First Nations Ancestral Remains, Secret Sacred Objects, and cultural materials, which are cared for by the Museum at the request of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The Queensland Museum has been actively repatriating Ancestral Remains and cultural material to First Nations communities across Australia since the 1990s.

We are looking to expand our repatriation team to meet increasing demands.

Working alongside the Senior Manager, Repatriation, you will ensure the Museum's repatriation initiatives and returns are sensitively, ethically, and culturally appropriate.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in building and maintaining relationships with First Nations communities, museums, and government agencies to facilitate repatriation safely and to ensure the ongoing high standards of the care and housing of the Ancestral Remains, Secret Sacred and other cultural materials held in care in the Museum's Keeping Place.

Repatriation plays a significant role in healing our communities and undoing past wrongs.

To perform this role it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
