What you will be doing:
An opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Coder to join the Clinical Coding team at Nepean Hospital, Penrith.

This will be a Permanent Part Time position of 28 hours per week, with a mix of working from home and in office work arrangements.

This opportunity is for coders with a minimum of 2 years clinical coding experience in Tertiary Hospitals.

The Clinical Coder is responsible for the accurate and timely coding of inpatient episodes of care, in accordance with the Australian coding standards and other relevant documents.

Other responsibilities include maintaining ethical coding practice and participating in quality activities.

An eligibility list may be created for future vacancies.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection Criteria to be Addressed:

  • Successful completion of a VETAB accredited Clinical Coding Course or Bachelor in Health Information Management (Medical Record Librarian / Administrator) and extensive coding experience in a tertiary hospital
  • Experience in clinical coding using ICD10AM and sound knowledge of current Australian Coding Standards
  • Demonstrated experience in using computerised patient data bases, electronic medical record and clinical systems
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change
  • Demonstrated written English and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a team and achieving team goals
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise own workload to ensure daily benchmarks are met
