A Storage Subject Matter Expert (SME) typically plays a crucial role in organisations by providing specialised knowledge and guidance related to storage systems.


  • Act as an expert in a specific field or domain, providing indepth knowledge and guidance to the organisation.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop and implement strategies, solutions, and best practices within the area of expertise.
  • Adhere to ITIL guidelines for Incident, Problem, and Change Management
  • Ensure all work is carried out and documented in accordance with required standards, methods, and procedures.
  • Root cause analysis and service improvement solutions
  • Liaise with appropriate teams for the development of corrective actions or viable workarounds to resolve major incidents.
  • Provide technical support to customers and other technical SMEs, utilising knowledge of storage and backup systems to quickly solve issues.
  • Work with the team to define project objectives, processes, policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Create and maintain optimal backup, restore, and redundancy solutions for critical data.
  • Organize training sessions or workshops to enhance the team's storage knowledge.
  • Encourage documentation of best practices, troubleshooting steps, and lessons learned.
  • Guide team members, helping them develop their storage expertise.

Let's talk about your Experience and Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline) is often required. Your degree in Information Technology (Cybersecurity) aligns well with this.
  • 7+ years of experience in storage administration, architecture, or related roles. This could include experience with storage tools like Commvault and AvePoint.
  • Certifications from storage vendors (Commvault Master Certification, Commvault Professional Certification and Commvault Engineer Certification) will be an added advantage.
  • Storage Technologies: Proficiency in storage protocols.
  • Backup and Recovery: Knowledge of backup solutions and disaster recovery strategies.

Storage Virtualization:
Understanding of virtual storage environments.
