How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne


The objective of this position is to support the MBS and the Building Control Group in protecting the health, safety and amenity of people using buildings and places of public entertainment.

We do this by ensuring that buildings and places of public entertainment comply with building legislation.


The position will require the incumbent to take a lead role in managing a wide range of events in the City of Melbourne, and proactively engage with internal and external stakeholders, to ensure the timely delivery of safe and equitable events.

The Building Control Officer - Events will liaise with appropriate government agencies with regard to legislative interpretation and changes to the events space.

The City of Melbourne delivers world standard quality events and is a leader in the events space. It is expected that the level of guidance and input from senior staff would be mínimal.


The Building Control Officer - Events will contribute to the on-going operating procedures and long term planning for the improvement of events, this includes keeping up with legislative changes and enhancements and changes to temporary building technologies.


What you will bring

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  • Extensive experience working in the Major Public Events industry with regard to building control.
  • Experience in the appraisal of temporary structures, scaffolding, gantries, prescribed temporary structures and places of public entertainment.
  • High customer service skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Council policies, procedures and local laws.
  • Good report writing skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in emergency management and providing directions in emergency situations.
  • A good knowledge in building legislative standards and procedures, as it relates to Events.
