Our Hydrogeology and Hydrology (H&H) Technical Discipline at SLR Australia, which consists of over 50 professionals, including 35+ Hydrogeologists, offers an exciting career opportunity for a skilled Principal Hydrogeologist to join our NSW / APAC team with the flexibility to work from Newcastle, Sydney, or Wollongong.

With a robust project pipeline and a strong focus on technical excellence and client relationships, we actively support the International Association of Hydrogeologists and invest in industry best practices to benefit both clients and staff. Collaborating across our H&H teams in Brisbane, Townsville, Newcastle, Wollongong, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, as well as with other SLR environmental specialists, we undertake projects across various market sectors including Mining & Minerals, Built Environment, Infrastructure, Industry, and Power, with a particular emphasis on resource projects.

About the Role and Essential Qualifications
Key Skills and Specialized Areas:

  • Proficient in NSW groundwater legislation and guidelines concerning resource, development, and infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with pertinent National and New South Wales groundwater laws, policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Experience in numerical hydrogeological modeling, particularly with MODFLOW-USG code, is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Proven track record in project management, especially overseeing large technical projects in the resource sector
  • Supervising junior staff to produce high-quality reports for both internal and external clients within set deadlines and budgets
  • Engaging in business development by identifying opportunities, leveraging client relationships, and contributing to project wins
  • Building and enhancing relationships with key clients to strengthen SLR's presence in the region
  • Providing guidance to internal and external clients, team members, and Project Managers on projects regarding best practices


Qualifications for Success in this Role
The ideal candidate should possess 12-20+ years of industry experience, including consultancy experience, along with:

  • Relevant Engineering or Science degree and significant industry exposure in groundwater
  • Demonstrated capability in managing large hydrogeology or multidisciplinary projects
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and team collaboration abilities
  • Excellent communication skills and technical report writing proficiency
  • Proven experience in mentoring junior staff effectively
  • A successful track record in establishing and nurturing client relationships
  • Familiarity or experience in the broader water market, particularly with surface water resources, is beneficial
  • Australian Citizenship or eligibility to work in Australia
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license
