About You

  • You are a have the relevant qualifications noted in the position description.
  • You have demonstrated professional competency including ability to deliver a broad range of psychosocial treatment interventions.
  • You have an understanding of the clinical issues relating to psychosocial treatments for drug and alcohol issues and disorders including harm minimisation and stepped care principles.
  • You have an Australian Drivers Licence and are flexible to work across various sites.

What you'll be doing
The position of MERIT Counsellor exists within the Drug and Alcohol Service of the Central Coast Local Health District.

The Magistrates Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) program is a special Magistrates program that provides opportunity for defendants with drug problems to participate in treatment, on a voluntary basis, whilst on bail.

The primary role of the position is to provide assessments, clinical treatments, counselling, case management and education for clients with problematic or harmful illicit drug use and related disorders.

Clinical work in the MERIT and Counselling teams is conducted primarily in Wyong, Gosford and Woy Woy Courts and at health centres across the Central Coast.
