The Finance Manager Role
Joining as a Finance Manager in this newly established position involves leading a small Finance Team and overseeing the planning, reporting, and governance activities for three entities. As the second-in-command to the Finance Director, it demands a solid grasp of accounting principles, emphasizing transactional accounting, and represents an excellent opportunity to enter during a phase of transformation and expansion.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing direct reports efficiently, with an eye on future business expansion.
  • Supervising the monthly and annual financial reporting close process to ensure complete compliance.
  • Preparing annual financial statutory accounts and directing/managing the annual Audit process.
  • Collaborating closely with the Global Finance Teams to meet Group Reporting expectations.
  • Aiding in developing and observing Budgets and forecasts.
  • Offering financial and commercial insights, working closely with management.
  • Supporting the monitoring and forecasting of cashflow by effectively managing working capital.
  • Ensuring full adherence to Tax Regulations, Payroll Tax, superannuation, and Work Cover.
  • Supervising the outsourced Payroll process and providing HR support as needed.
  • Continuously recognizing improvement opportunities and implementing best practices.

The Successful Finance Manager
The ideal Finance Manager is likely CA or CPA certified, with approximately 7 years of accounting experience, possibly including exposure to a reputable public practice firm specializing in Business Services or Audit. This should be complemented by recent commerce experience, preferably within the manufacturing sector. Additionally, you should bring:

  • Experience in leading teams
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Thorough financial analysis and reporting skills
  • Curiosity for learning
  • Effective listening and communication abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for engaging with various stakeholders
  • Resilience and perseverance

You should also exhibit a proactive attitude with the capacity to focus and deliver within set deadlines. Gradual addition of responsibilities and guidance from the Finance Director will pave the way for progression to the role of Financial Controller.
