Role overview:


The Training Developer leads and undertakes the development of technical training materials for newly developed or changed products, and provides train the trainer training in support of the development of end user capability.

The Training Developer also undertakes other technical writing tasks as required and actively supports the development of technical writing capability in the Engineering department to ensure that the quality of technical documentation produced meets business and customer requirements and is produced in an efficient manner.


Primary responsibilities:

  • Lead and undertake the development of technical training materials and packages by working closely with customer representatives and project team members to ensure that the training material delivered is complete, concise, usable, meets all customer requirements and is fit for purpose.
  • Update existing training materials as required due to changes in the products or as a result of a change in training approach.
  • Regularly review the suitability and effectiveness of the training materials and work with the customer and project team members to introduce changes to the product or the training materials to address any aspects requiring improvement.
  • Undertake train the trainer training for key field support staff and end users as required.
  • Perform technical writing work in support of engineering deliverables, working closely with engineers to ensure that documents to be delivered to the customer are of high quality and meet user needs.
  • Provide training and support for engineers to further develop technical writing capability within the engineering team.
  • Actively support the development and implementation of process documents and templates to improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of process documentation and project deliverables within the business.
  • Develop exemplars and guidance materials to set the standard and to support overall improvements in the quality of document deliverables. Regularly measure performance to assess whether the expected improvements have been realised.
  • Act as the expert and champion of technical writing and documentation standards. Provide advice and develop improvements that deliver both quality and efficiency improvements for the business.

Skills and experience:

Essential

  • CERT IV Training qualifications.
  • Proven experience developing training materials and delivering training involving complex products in an engineering environment.
  • Experience and understanding of the Defence SADL (Systems Approach to Defence Learning) or similar.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Proven ability to introduce change and improve technical writing standards.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Australian Security Clearance (security clearance is required).
  • Australian Citizenship is required

Desirable

  • Ex Defence or Defence Industry ideally familiar with Australian Army Training processes.
  • Experience with complex Defence software systems such as the DTCS (Digital Terminal Control Systems), AFATDS (Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System) or other Army Battle Management Systems.
  • Previous experience developing and delivering training materials to the Australian Defence Forces, ideally Army.
