The Position


The Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO) is part of Victoria's integrity system and informs the Parliament and Victorians about the performance of the public sector and how to improve public services.


A newly established Parliamentary Reports and Services Division (PRSD) of the organisation, led by the Assistant Auditor-General, is building a flexible and agile leadership group and seeks to fill multiple Manager (VPS5) positions.


There are approximately 70 staff in the new Division which brings together the areas of strategic audit planning, performance audit, data science, and communications and publishing.

Each branch is headed by a Director who is supported by a team of Senior Managers.

Managers, Senior Analysts, Analysts, Graduates, Data Scientists and Editors, work across the branches as members of engagement teams, planning teams, and practice improvement project teams.

We are interested in people from diverse backgrounds.

You may come from auditing, consulting, the not-for-profit sector, public policy, or service delivery across the public or private sector.

We also welcome a broad range of qualifications such as accounting, arts, economics, law, science, statistics and so on.


Managers will contribute to timely and high-quality performance audits and products, through authoring and/or managing assigned components of an audit or product, including delegating and monitoring the work of other audit team.

You will have demonstrated experience in conducting audits, policy development and analysis or similar processes.

Selection criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting audits, policy development and analysis or similar processes. An understanding or demonstrated ability to quickly adapt and acquire an understanding, of systems and the role and functions of performance audit.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, confidently conveying ideas and information in a clear and interesting manner in documents and presentations. A demonstrated ability to develop and prepare products that canvass complex topics concisely, in plain English, and underpinned by a robust evidence base, all while ensuring timelines are achieved.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, including the proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with people at all levels and to collaborate, negotiate and influence a diverse range of stakeholders to gain agreement to proposals and ideas.
  • Cooperates and works well with others in pursuit of team goals, collaborates and shares information, shows consideration, concern and respect for others feelings and ideas, accommodates and works well with the different working styles of others, encourages resolution of conflict within the group.
  • Has a track record of being proactive and selfstarting. and takes responsibility for own actions.
