  • The Finance Graduate Program provides a great opportunity to acquire wholeofGovernment and agency specific financial management and accounting skills. The Graduate Financial Analyst is responsible for undertaking a range of financial management tasks relating to budgeting, financial and statistical reporting and accounting.

Hours per fortnight:

About this position:


The Graduate Financial Analyst (Diversity Position) is targeted at applicants from three specified diversity groups, in line with our Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.


The role is responsible for undertaking a range of financial management tasks relating to budgeting, financial and statistical reporting and accounting.

In undertaking these tasks the Graduate will acquire important whole-of-Government and agency specific financial management and accounting skills.

Essential qualifications and requirements:

  • A degree with a major in accounting and/or finance that enables the applicant to complete Australia's Certified Practising Accountant program or the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand postgraduate program. You must have graduated with a minimum of a threeyear undergraduate degree (certificates, diplomas or other nontertiary courses of study are insufficient).
  • Be either:
- an Australian citizen;
- a permanent resident of Australia;
- a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand passport; or

About the Finance Graduate Program:


The Finance Graduate Program at Treasury provides an opportunity to develop practical accounting and finance skills and to become a qualified accountant while working in a central Government agency.


We aim to recruit business/finance graduates who wish to pursue a career in government and have recently completed, or are about to complete, a suitable business/finance degree and are intending to undertake professional accountancy qualifications - the Certified Practising Accountant or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand postgraduate program.

As a minimum standard, Graduates are expected to pass exams and make good progress towards the completion of the CPA program or the CA ANZ program.

Treasury will provide both financial and leave support to undertake the professional studies through:

  • payment of professional membership fees; and
- study leave in accordance with Departmental policy.


Whilst participating in the Finance Graduate Program, Graduates are placed within Branches of the Budget and Finance Division for periods of up to 18 months, over a three-year period.


About you:

Ideally you will have:
- sound financial analysis and accounting skills;

- the ability to understand:

- complex operational issues and identify possible solutions with good judgement;
- the broader operating environment and its implications for the tasks being undertaken; and
- the ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders and prepare accurate documentation.
