About the Role:

Join the Waterfront team and be part of one of the most iconic projects in Queensland.

This once-in-a-generation project will transform the existing Waterfront Place and Eagle Street Pier site into a global-standard business and tourist destination.


Due to increase workload in our growing Building QLD/NT business unit, we are looking to speak to Design Managers at all levels with demonstrated work experience on major large or commercial projects.


Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Plan and control the delivery of project design to ensure the achievement of quality, completion and project objectives
  • Select and engage, then monitor the performance of external design partners within the discipline including their deliverables, costs and timeframes
  • Manage the design approval process in accordance with project requirements and program
  • Prepare budgets and schedules of design delivery for management approval then manage and report the cost of design delivery in the project life cycle
  • Manage design to ensure the cost of the works meets project requirements
  • Demonstrate commercial and contractual awareness in dealing with clients and external design partners
  • Manage client and stakeholder expectations and communicate effectively with the project team
  • Supervise the work of subordinate design and drafting staff to ensure project requirements are met
  • Select and develop design management staff within the project by providing leadership and mentoring to ensure their design management competencies
  • Understand design compliance and reporting procedures and processes and leadership in the communication of requirements
  • Foster the interaction between design and construction teams to maximise innovation and project success.
  • Ensure that JH Safety in Design requirements are met.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures

To be succesful in this role, you must have:

  • Demonstrated experience working with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor in a similar role
  • Experience of working on complex Commercial or Construction projects
  • Demonstrated competencies in Head Contract and Subcontract understanding and interpretation
  • Strong stakeholder management with major consultant partners and ability to work in large project teams
  • Strong time and cost management skills in timely delivery of design and management of both the costs of preparing design and the costs of the works
