CSIRO's Energy Business Unit is seeking a

Research Projects Office:

Engineering (Carbon Capture) on a 36-month contract to join their direct air capture team on scaling carbon capture technologies designed for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.

This includes a significant material testing component.

You'll be assisting with the development of new characterisation techniques and engineering that support the scale-up of carbon capture technologies.


As a Research Technician, you will focus on the ultimate goal of the team to scale technologies to pilot scale and beyond and contribute to several strategic and commercial projects looking at deploying CSIRO's CO2 capture technology into the field.


Your duties will include:

  • Testing new materials for carbon capture and working with the project team to design these materials and methodologies to access materials.
  • Performing HSE analysis of synthetic methodologies to select the correct practices to carry out the synthesis safely, and in doing so, adhering to CSIRO HSE policies.
  • Under limited supervision, designing and performing straightforward experiments and routine laboratory analyses, design new processes or apparatus by adapting existing techniques and components to meet special circumstances or undertaking modifications to methods requiring some innovation.
  • Designing data recording and entry systems.
  • Conducting literature reviews, investigations and inspections in the laboratory including associated analysis possibly involving statistical or graphics software.
  • Performing some nonroutine analyses or technology development activities using a range of techniques, often working on a number of parallel and competing tasks.
  • Independently testing possible solutions to resolve identified problems.
  • May be responsible for maintaining laboratory or fieldwork consumables and scheduling and instructing staff in the use of shared equipment.

To be considered you will need:

Essential

  • Relevant trade certificate/diploma/bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in engineering, chemistry or material synthesis.
  • Fundamental understanding of engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience with material testing.
  • Requires technical skills in material analysis in order to test the developed materials.

Desirable

  • Experience with material synthesis.
  • Experience handling new materials safely including use of correct PPE.

Eligibility:


To be eligible to work in CSIRO you must be an Australian/ New Zealand Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa for the duration of the specified term, without the requirement for visa sponsorship by CSIRO.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain a National Police check or equivalent.
