About the role:

We are seeking staff to work at Perry House to:

  • To provide afterhours support in Perry House, incorporating sleepover shifts on a rotating roster basis, to residents participating in the program outline above
  • To engage with residents throughout the shift both in the houses and on excursions
  • To work independently at the houses whilst assisting participants with daily tasks and adhering to any specific routine requirements of the program
  • To support residents to develop their independent living skills

Desired Skills and Experience:

About you:

  • An ability and commitment to work as part of a team to support young people within a residential environment
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working effectively with young people who may have an intellectual disability, be experiencing homelessness, substance use, mental health concerns, violent or aggressive behaviours and other complex problems associated with offending behaviour
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills, including high level objectivity and capacity to work with disadvantaged young people who display challenging behaviours
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound assessment of crisis situations including substance use, first aid and challenging behaviours
  • An awareness and understanding of issues that young people face who have experience institutionalisation and/ or have had contact with the criminal justice system
  • A demonstrated ability to work autonomously while working to team goals
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Capacity to fulfil reporting and administrative requirements associated with the position
  • Understanding and sympathy with the mission and ethos of Jesuit Social Service

About the program:

Perry House


Perry House offers a completely unique model of supported housing to some of the most marginalised and disadvantaged people exiting the justice system.

It provides up to 12 months of housing with 24/7 residential support to people aged years with an intellectual disability who are exiting the justice system and at-risk of homelessness.

In this space, we work with some of the most disadvantaged members of our community that face a range of incredibly complex co-occurring and interrelated issues including, but not limited to, disability, substance misuse, health problems, involvement in the criminal justice system and homelessness.
