About the role

The Honourable Justice Stynes is seeking a legally qualified person to be her Associate for a period of 18 months, commencing in mid July 2023.

Justice Stynes undertakes a wide variety of work within the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria. Her Honour is the Judge in charge of the Technology, Engineering and Construction List. As a result, the successful applicant will have a genuine interest in construction law.
Her Honour strives for excellence in her work and the work of her chambers. As such, you will have exemplary academic results and very strong legal research skills.

You will be highly organised and will be able to liaise in an efficient and cordial manner with members of the legal profession, the Court, and the public.

Experience in the area of construction law and at least one year of post admission experience at a law firm (or similar) is desirable.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience at the Court and contribute to the administration of justice.


Duties will include:

  • Undertaking high level legal research;
  • Assisting with the production of judgments, papers and presentations including proofreading and editing;
  • Performing administrative tasks, including managing the demands of the Judge Managed Lists;
  • Acting as chambers' first point of contact, liaising with Court staff, the public, the media and the profession; and
  • Undertaking the duties of an Associate in Court
