About the Company

Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.

Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for a Linux Software Engineer in Canberra, ACT to work on Defence ICT capability uplift and production environment support projects

What You’ll Do

These roles offer a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

  • Design, document, build, administer and support production HQOTM MPE nodes.
  • Develop, maintain and integrate software components, applications and interfacing systems.
  • Automate solution installation, application customisation and system configuration activities.
  • Support Linux configuration compliance, patch management, software lists and technical baselines.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including SOPs, BLIs, training material and configuration control artefacts.

What You’ll Bring

a

  • Extens ive experience in software development, ideally across Windows-based virtual environments and Linux-based systems.
  • Experience developing software for Linux operating systems, including customising, administering and hardening Linux servers and applications.
  • Experience automating and scripting application installation, customisation and configuration activities.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Linux standard operating environment images, technical documentation and system support artefacts.
  • Exposure to DevOps methodologies, with the ability to provide technical advice aligned to broader business and capability requirements.

Experience with deployable communication and information systems, systems engineering processes, the Defence Capability Lifecycle, agile project management, Ansible scripting, OpenStack or Windows SOE development will be highly regarded.

Due to the nature of the work, the successful applicant must hold and maintain an AGSVA Security Clearance, as required by the Commonwealth. In some cases, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) may also be required.
