We are seeking 2 Lactation Consultant’s on a part-time basis to assist in the provision of care across the 6 days of the week in which the service operates. The lactation service runs Monday – Saturday with 6 hours per day Monday to Friday + 4 hours on a Saturday.

We are a 189 bed, acute, private hospital facility co-located on the John Hunter Campus at Rankin Park. The hospital has 11 theatres including a hybrid theatre and a 15 bed Intensive Care Unit.
Our private maternity suite is focused on the best possible care for families in the Newcastle region; containing 6 birthing suites and a special care baby nursery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert lactation consultation and support to new mothers during their hospital stay.
- Conduct thorough assessments to identify breastfeeding challenges and develop individualised care plans.
- Offer education and guidance on breastfeeding techniques, positioning, and infant feeding cues.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care for mother-infant.
- Educate and empower nursing and midwifery staff and other healthcare professionals on evidence-based breastfeeding practices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of lactation consultations, plans and outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Current IBCLC status as a Certified Lactation Consultant
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Midwifery
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field will be highly advantageous
- Registered as Midwife/Nurse with AHPRA
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with Lactation in an acute hospital setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and patient-centred approach.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with diverse teams.
- Knowledge of the NSQHS clinical care standards and accreditation requirements
- Commitment to continuing education and staying updated on current practices in lactation support.

If you are successful in the role, you will receive a salary based on your years of relevant registered nursing experience against the current Healthscope and NSWNMA/ANMF – NSW Nurses and Midwives’ – Enterprise Agreement 2020 – 2024, this role is classed as a Clinical Nursing Consultant with a rate of pay ranging from $63.71-65.02 - per hour.
