 About the Team

Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.

The Operations teams work within several complex and challenging environments, including some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery outcomes for its customers, stakeholders and the community.

About the Opportunity

This is a 2-year contract for a graduate track and civil engineer to provide technical engineering and delivery support to various business units to contribute to safe, efficient and cost-effective annual works programs. The engineer will rotate through different business units within the Hunter Valley network, including Engineering, Projects, and Maintenance teams. We are open to the possibility of offering part-time positions to undergraduates who are nearing graduation, allowing them to work while completing their studies before transitioning into a full-time graduate role.

  • Provide management and technical engineering assistance.
  • Assist in the scheduling and planning of resources to undertake programmes in line with budget.
  • Assist with the scoping and costing of projects so a realistic assessment of project viability and resource requirements can be ascertained.
  • Assist with supplying engineering solutions designed to address issues within the track corridor.
  • Providing input into strategic planning.
  • Enforcing safety policies and procedures.

What do we want from you?

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Degree (or working towards) qualifications in engineering, Civil or Mechanical.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop resolutions to engineering problems.

Ability to develop a sound knowledge of:

Railway systems.

  • Australian standards of track infrastructure including the railway National Code of Practice.
  • Railway safe working systems, principles and audit requirements.
