About the role
We have a vacancy for a niche position as a Carriage Builder based at the Ipswich depot.

The successful candidate would be required to repair, maintain the Heritage Rollingstock which is predominantly wooden coaches together with stripping them down, repairing a lot of the sub frames and rebuilding the carriages. There will also be overhaul work to be conducted in the near future.

To be successful in this role, you are required to hold a Trade Certificate in Carpentry or as a Cabinet Maker.

The hours of work are all dayshift, 7.00am – 4.00pm, working a 9-day fortnight. A small amount of overtime will be as required.

Day-to-day responsibilities of this role will include
•    Work in a craftsman like manner to restore and then maintain heritage timber coaches, railmotors and other rollingstock, components and associated equipment
•    Carry out duties in a team environment, planning own work, taking responsibilities for work outcomes and identifying productivity improvements.
•    Undertake maintenance work on buildings and internal fixtures.
•    Provide for the day-to-day operation and be accountable for the continual improvement of service provided to meet customer requirements.

About you
•    Cabinet Maker or Carpenter Trade Qualification
•    A great knowledge in the manufacture, repair, maintenance and overhaul of Rollingstock, equipment and associated components is key to this role.
•    Sound knowledge of the requirements of Queensland Rail policies, rules, regulations and procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Act and Environmental Policies.
•    Be able to interpret technical instructions and drawings and work within a workgroup with minimal supervision.
•    You will have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
•    Rail experience would be desirable
