The Role

Within our Database Administration team at Kyndryl, you'll be a master of managing and administering the backbone of our technological infrastructure. You'll be the architect of the system, shaping the base definition, structure, and documentation to ensure the long-term success of our business operations. 

Your expertise will be crucial in configuring, installing and maintaining database management systems, ensuring that our systems are always running at peak performance. You'll also be responsible for managing user access, implementing the highest standards of security to protect our valuable data from unauthorized access.

In addition, you'll be a disaster recovery guru, developing strong backup and recovery plans to ensure that our system is always protected in the event of a failure. Your technical acumen will be put to use, as you support end users and application developers in solving complex problems related to our database systems.

As a key player on the team, you'll implement policies and procedures to safeguard our data from external threats. You will also conduct capacity planning and growth projections based on usage, ensuring that our system is always scalable to meet our business needs.

You'll be a strategic partner, working closely with various teams to coordinate systematic database project plans that align with our organizational goals. Position Summary:

The Database Administrator creates, maintains, designs, monitors and troubleshoots client IMS databases and DB2 objects. Proficient with IBM IMS and DB2 database management utilities, develop and implement database recovery mechanisms and procedures for both IMS and DB2 components, and coordinate security measures to safeguard IMS and DB2 database integrity.

To lead DB2 z/OS projects and initiatives, working together with experienced DB2 z/OS and IMS DBAs.

To work closely with IMS and DB2 z/OS System Programmers on IMS and DB2 z/OS systems and tools upgrades. To provide DBA support to a list of critical applications that use DB2 z/OS and IMS databases/transactions.

Key Areas:

The successful candidate will perform IMS database and DB2 object changes coupled with administration and tuning to support our customers' IMS and DB2 environments. The individual will need to work with vendor personnel to achieve timely solutions of database problems. The individual will be responsible for day-to-day database maintenance such as creating backups, performing restores, monitoring file extent growth, scheduling reorganizations, creating and maintaining DR procedures and overall support of customer needs and requests. The successful candidate will be called upon to perform a variety of IMS and DB2 database optimizations that will include general reporting and analysis of the efficiency of the IMS database and DB2 objects configuration and periodic review of IMS database and DB2 objects performance. Expertise and work efforts will focus on the development and support and/or the customization of new services and support efforts. To ensure that all databases and environmental changes are appropriately tested and implemented in such a manner that there is no impact to the systems and clients. System programming knowledge of multiple DBMS's is a bonus. The individual will need to participate in on-call responsibilities.


Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required and/or equivalent work experience. 10+ years of professional experience in IMS and DB2 database administration. BMC COPE and IBM tools for IMS and DB2. IMS and DB2 systems programming support is a plus Extensive experience with the following:Knowledge of the best practices of software management, maintenance and documentationEstablishing policies and procedures pertaining to database management, DR, maintenance and utilizationEvaluating change requests and determine impact to assigned clientsVendor consultations for problems and questionsDR recovery of application objectsTroubleshooting and solving production database issuesDemonstrated ability to respond quickly and effectively to support requests from clientSupporting customer for after hours on-call

Database Administration

Deep knowledge of IMS database organization using access methods of VSAM and OSAM Full function database organization types HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, HDAM, HIDAM, INDEX, GSAM Definition and use of LOGICAL databases HALDB (partitioned): PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS, PSINDEX, etc. Fast Path databases (DEDBs) Broad knowledge of DB2 for Z/OS database components and concepts DB2 Program Preparation, Bind and Locking DB2 Storage Concepts

Database Design and related utilities

DBD source coding and DBDGEN PSBGEN source coding and PSBGEN How databases are processed using secondary indexes (PROCSEQ=) Correct usage of PROCOPT= to minimize database locking ACBGEN Online Change IMS commands related to ACB and FORMAT changes DB2 Entity Relationship Modeling and Normalization DB2 Referential Integrity DB2 and IMS Omegamon monitor

Coding and usage of IMS and DB2 DBA utilities (including IBM, BMC, CA)

Unload IMS DB Prefix resolution Reload IMS DB Prefix update Secondary index build Image copy IMS DB Pointer checker IMS Performance Analyzer Online and batch reorganization DB2 RUNSTATS DB2 SQL Performance optimization Proficient in DB2 for z/OS DDL, DML, DCL Experience with IBM DB2 V12+ and IMS V15 Experience with IBM DB2 Administration Tool. Experience with a database performance monitoring tools like Query Monitor, DB2 Explain, SQL Performance Analyzer, and access path evaluation REXX, ISPF, CLIST, or other database automation development skills/experience. Experience with DB2 triggers Experience with IBM Infosphere Data Replication (CDC) for IMS Experience with IBM DB2 performance management and tuning; 

Support planned (disaster recovery) and unplanned (emergency) database recovery activities

Knowledge of log archive and change accumulation utilities How to perform a log archive on demand Knowledge of IMS and DB2 DB recovery utilities How to use DBRC to generate JCL for forward recovery and point-in-time database recovery

Database monitoring

Space management Database dataset space reporting for proactive outage avoidance. How to immediately fix an out of space condition for a VSAM database dataset Experience with Omegamon for IMS and DB2

Identification and resolution of performance issues

Online tracing - Usage of IMS TRACE commands and associated utilities for spot monitoring of online program/transaction activity Extracting information from IMS logs using DFSERA10 and related utilities DFSUTR20 and DFSUTR30 Use of DFSDDLT0 utility to access data Program/transaction monitoring – Familiarity with usage of IBM's IMS performance Analyzer product is a plus Using DBRC to monitor database activity
