PRODUCTION HORTICULTURALIST POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Working with farm operations manager to ensure that all land preparations are done with established procedures.
  • Training and monitoring maintenance team to perform maintenance duties as required.
  • Preparing tasks in line with farm goals and requirements after weekly and monthly meetings with management.
  • Assess quality of work and take corrective actions for tasks not completed.
  • Ensuring that all material inputs for polytunnel, fertiliser, spray chemicals and farm machinery are adequate for respective operations on the farm.
  • Ensure the upkeep of all tractors and implements.
  • Liaising with farm operation manager to ensure implement production and maintenance regimes.
  • Operating various tractors and implements to include tractors, slashers, mowers and mulchers.
  • Identity and report unusual disease and plant pest signs for blueberry, raspberry, blackberry
  • Work with farm manager to tailor plan for remedial action.
  • Operate pressurised irrigation systems. Knowledge to operate Priva fertigation systems to provide water according to crop requirements.
  • Prepare and apply chemicals to control pest, weeds and disease for blueberry, blackberry, and raspberry crops.
  • Coordinate blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry harvesting with Farm Operation Manager
  • and Quality Control Manager.
  • Manage and install drainage systems on farm.
  • Monitor and manage nursery plants for blueberry, raspberry and blackberry crops.
  • Managing and working with external contractors to operate spreading and seeding equipment.
