Want to build rockets in Bowen? We’re recruiting for a Propulsion Operations Engineer I to assist the propulsion team in the design, test, and analysis of propulsion test infrastructure and sub-systems. Support the development of in-house capability and know-how to design, manufacture, and test liquid bi-propellant, hybrid rocket engines, electric pump feed systems, and all necessary sub-systems. You will document and communicate across teams to ensure duties are performed in an efficient and timely manner whilst adhering to Gilmour Space policies and procedures.

This role will be based in Bowen, QLD at our launch facility.

How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:

  • Assist in the fluid and mechanical design of test stands for rocket engines and sub- systems
  • Assist in the operation of and direction to teams operating test stands and infrastructure to efficiently, effectively, and safely execute rocket engine and sub- system testing
  • Support the development of detailed designs for test infrastructure, stand and associated systems
  • Assist in the assembling, fitting, and functional testing of test infrastructure and associated systems
  • Prepare and conduct testing and test reviews in accordance with policies, plans and procedures
  • Troubleshoot test systems and articles, perform root cause analysis
  • Assist research, development, qualification, and acceptance tests of propulsion sub-systems
  • Under supervision, undertake explosive simulations and analysis for risk assessment and safety case development
  • Support research & development as well as product development, and the assembly and fabrication of propulsion sub-systems
  • Develop and review procedures and checklist for executing testing operations and maintenance
  • Develop and review procedures for manufacturing and maintaining test components, assets, and infrastructure
  • Other duties as requested by Management

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Proficiency with CAD designing parts and assemblies
  • Proficiency with at least one commercial FEA or Multiphysics simulation package
  • Hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly, integration, and
  • NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred
