About Medical and Cancer Services Division

The Medical and Cancer Services Division is one of six divisions within the Chief Operations Officer Directorate of Austin Health.  The Division’s clinical services operate across all three Austin Health campuses and Ballarat Health Services (BHS) within the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) and comprise a complex range of national, state-wide organisational wide and speciality clinical services.

About Cancer Services

Austin Health is one of the largest cancer service providers in Victoria.  A complete range of services are delivered to patients and their families, including medical oncology, clinical haematology, radiation oncology (Austin Health and BHS), cancer genetics, palliative care, wellness and supportive care programs, an active volunteer program and specialist cancer surgery (managed via a separate Division).  These are all provided in an environment that integrates research, teaching and training.

About Mercy Hospital for Women (MHW) Gynae-oncology Service

The Department of Gynaecology Oncology is a quaternary referral service that provides comprehensive holistic and patient-centred gynaecological cancer in a multidisciplinary setting to women across Victoria and interstate to approximately 500 new gynaecological cancers per year .  The current scope of the service enables women to receive continuity of high-quality specialised diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care provided by a multidisciplinary team of gynaecological oncologists, medical oncologists, specialist nursing, allied health and supportive care staff.

About the role

The Medical Oncologist in this position holds a leadership role within the Medical Oncology unit as a Tumour Stream Lead in gynae-oncology and provides leadership in the tumour stream through collaboration with the Mercy Hospital for Women. The position has strong functional relationships with Mercy Hospital for Women, which is the designated gynae-oncology service on the Austin Health/Mercy Hospital for Women precinct.

As the Tumour Stream Lead you will provide clinical specialization and leadership in gynae-oncology, including

  • Leadership in outpatient clinics including clinics at Mercy Hospital for Women and consultative services for inpatients at Mercy Hospital for Women
  • Leadership and governance of oncology participation in multidisciplinary meetings (MDM’s)

About you

As the Medical Oncologist, You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care including research. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.

The role can be filled by one full time position or two substantive part time positions.
