Our Sensing and Sorting Research Program, within CSIRO Mineral Resources business unit, aims to develop advanced X-ray, radio frequency (RF) and other sensing methods for real time analysis of elements and minerals, enabling improvements in the efficiency and sustainability of mining. Located at the ANSTO site in Lucas Heights NSW, the Electronics Engineer will be part of our specialised ‘Radio Frequency and Digital Systems’ Team, and will play a key role in supporting the engineering development of advanced prototype analysers, across both the Magnetic Resonance (MR) and X-Ray Technologies research groups.

As the Electronics Engineer, you will bring your expertise in electronic and electrical design, and experience in fabricating and testing prototypes, to design, test and develop innovative RF-based online instruments. You will be actively involved in a range of exciting projects, contributing to the research programs’ strategic goals and improving its commercialisation opportunities.

Your duties will include:

  • Undertaking the design, implementation and validation of relevant electronic and electrical hardware systems.
  • Carrying out laboratory testing and field trials of electrical equipment in various environments, including at mine sites.
  • Understanding software engineering and communication protocols of prototype systems.
  • At the higher capability level, you will also be:
  • Contributing to research and/or technology through the development of original and adapted experimental methods, equipment or software.
  • Liaising with clients to determine their needs and taking personal responsibility for their satisfaction.
  • Participating in planning projects and accepting responsibility for scheduling and completion of major parts of the project.
  • Making significant contributions to the interpretation and communication of research or technological results.

Location: Lucas Heights, NSW
Salary: AU$66K – AU$98K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A tertiary degree in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering or equivalent, with minimum 2 years postgraduate experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to design electrical and electronic circuits.
  • Ability to develop laboratory prototypes through to prototype production.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to solving engineering problems.
  • Electronic design automation (EDA) and design process documentation skills.
  • Familiarity using modern sensors and devices, e.g., laser, vision, inertial, radar, robotics.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • To be considered at the higher capability level, you will also need significant industry experience with RF devices and electronics.

Eligibility

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the ANSTO site.

To enter a CSIRO site, CSIRO will require you to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (or show a valid medical exemption from vaccination). If you are unable to meet this requirement, then you must return a negative result on a Rapid Antigen Test (within 48 hours prior to attending site) and wear a face mask whilst on the CSIRO site.
