We have a national biodiversity team of over 80 Ecologists, and we are known for our wide-ranging and extensive technical expertise as well as our robust biodiversity assessments. Our services are in high demand and continue to grow on the back of new and exciting projects, including within the renewable energy, infrastructure, and resource sectors. At all times, our goal is to use our expertise to provide specialist advice to balance development, impact avoidance, and offsetting results that achieve the best possible environmental outcome.

To support our ongoing growth, we are seeking an Ecologist / Spatial Analyst based in our Newcastle or Sydney office. We are looking to build an integrated spatial team within our NSW Ecology team, which will bridge the gap between ecological sciences and spatial sciences. This role will report to our Senior Spatial Ecologist who will lead the sub-team of spatial specialists to allow for greater efficiencies in coordinating, managing, and completing the team’s core business – providing ecological services.

Opportunities will also arise as part of this role to undertake a diversity of spatial and ecological projects in different geographical areas outside of NSW depending on the specific requirements of individual projects.

About you

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Ecologist / Spatial Analyst with who has:

  • A degree/post-graduate qualification in environmental science, botany, zoology, environmental science, spatial technologies (or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS pro to undertake spatial analysis of environmental datasets.
  • Experience in using remote sensing techniques to measure the health or landuse changes of the natural environment.
  • Experience using python to automate data flows (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience with any other relevant software such as QGIS, FME, Global mapper, ERDAS IMAGINE, ENVI, or any others relevant will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated examples of conducting complex spatial analyses to interpret and understand ecological patterns and relationships.
  • Experience as an Ecologist within the consulting sector will be highly regarded.
  • An ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including clients, government agencies and fellow team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including experience in preparing and reviewing reports. Willingness to take responsibility for delivery of reports to final quality.
  • A high level of motivation and self-direction.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours and travel for work including working away from home to complete ecological surveys in remote locations.
