About the company/role:
Based in the south of Sydney, this well-known government organisation undertakes leading edge research in nuclear science and technology and provides specialised advice to government, industry, academia and other research organisations. The senior chemist will assess and document compliance with ARPANSA license conditions and other regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assess and document compliance with ARPANSA licence conditions and other regulatory requirements.
  • Collate information and prepare periodic reports (e.g. quarterly reports) to regulatory authorities.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the timely responses to regulatory issues and ensure the effective control and integration of safety and licensing activities.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of Business Management System (BMS).
  • Ensure quarterly reports and any other information required under the facility licence is prepared and submitted in accordance with the licence.
  • Ensure the safety documentation (SAR and Plans and Arrangements) are maintained consistent with safety and licensing requirements.
  • Providing technical expertise in relation to licensing and regulatory issues.
  • Coordinate appropriate responses to safety and licensing issues raised by ARPANSA and other Commonwealth regulators.       

Skills & experience:

  • Degree in Engineering or Science
  • Strong understanding of analytical, technical and general engineering terms.
  • Experience with the implementation of safety management systems and safety/risk assessment methodologies and processes.
  • Experience with technical writing including attention to detail.
  • Reliable and deadline driven with project management skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Solid understanding of AS 4801 safety management, ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management principles.
  • Experience using database software for reporting requirements
