General Summary

Under the direct supervision of the building Principal, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the Math Teacher is responsible for instructing students in one subject area. As a member of the professional staff, the teacher has responsibilities in the areas of: instruction, curriculum development, classroom management, student relations, parent and community relations, and staff relations.

About the Role

Displays a high degree of knowledge in the subject matter assigned and is continuously upgrading competence. Organizes learning activities to provide varied classroom activities that are congruent with educational goals and objectives. Applies sound principles of learning and motivation in the planning, delivery and assessment phases of instructional delivery. Uses technology as a tool within the classroom and as a management tool. Establishes effective relationships with students and models respect for and acceptance of all persons in the school setting. Establishes effective relationships with parents, community and other staff members. Uses district goals and objectives to plan and implement a cohesive curriculum.

Education, Knowledge and Skills Required

Valid Michigan certification as a teacher in mathematics at this level with an EX (Math) endorsement based on completion of a major in Math, OR, if based on a math minor, passage of the MTTC EX test. Has experience working with a diverse student population and/or a history of promoting diversity through his/her practices.
