Position Summary

Highly experienced in child and youth mental health support Medical and Mental Health Southeastern Suburbs Fixed term EFT parental leave backfill position until March 2025. 

The Paediatric Consultation Liaison (Paediatric CL) Psychiatry team provides specialist mental health assessments for infants, children and adolescents aged 0 to 18 years old, who are admitted as medical inpatients and needing mental health support and intervention. Paediatric CL provides both consultation and liaison services to a range of medical and surgical teams and a variety of paediatric wards across three main hospital sites, including the new Monash Children's Hospital at Clayton, Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong Hospital and Casey Hospital.

The Early in Life Mental Health Services (ELMHS) provides assessment and treatment for infants, children, adolescents, young people and their families. We work with the 0-18 age range in the Southern Region. We provide a comprehensive assessment service and a range of treatment options including inpatient treatment in times of crisis, community (outpatient) treatment, group programs, family therapy and specialist services. We offer a range of therapeutic interventions and systemic interventions for both the client, family and service system. 

About the Role 

The Paediatric Consultation Liaison Psychiatry (CL) Senior Mental Health Clinician position is a specialist clinical mental health role. The Paediatric CL team provides paediatric consultation and liaison to a variety of paediatric medical teams across the three sites of Monash Health who are seeking psychiatric mental health assessments for the 0-18 age range. The team also supports the emergency departments at Clayton, Dandenong and Casey. In addition to providing specialist mental health assessments and consultation liaison support to the general paediatric medical wards of the 3 sites of Monash Children's Hospital, the successful candidate will provide crisis assessments and management of presentations of children and young people to the emergency department as well as liaison support to the emergency department staff. The clinician will work as part of the Paediatric CL team under its governance and support and, as such, will have opportunities to work in a variety of medical settings. This EFT fixed term role will end on 14/03/2025

About You 

The role of the Senior Mental Health Clinician will suit you if you are interested in working alongside a team of senior clinicians and the consultant psychiatrist. This role is a highly autonomous mental health role which requires the provision of timely intervention and a high level of organisation. You will need to have the capacity to provide systemic containment, education and support predominantly to medical systems of care. Excellent engagement and therapeutic skills are a must. Experience in the identification and management of a range of mental health issues including eating disorders, somatic symptoms, anxiety, phobias, depression, psychosis and risk issues including suicidal Ideation and self harm is necessary.
