The Opportunity
MACSYS is the world's largest focused research initiative in mathematical biology. We unite biological, mathematical, computational scientists to develop innovative mathematics and computational technologies to understand and predict outcomes in bacterial cells. This is a frontier research effort in Microbiology. Our mission includes creating mathematical whole-cell models (WCMs) of bacteria for in silico biology to complement traditional in vivo and in vitro approaches. We tackle fundamental biological problems and establish a world-leading research and biotechnology translation environment. We emphasise equity and diversity in research training and outreach into communities.
In this role you will be responsible for:
Conducting in-depth biochemical and molecular biology analysis of microbial physiology and dynamics Engaging in the genetic engineering of bacteria Designing and deploying biochemical assays Utilizing high-throughput phenotyping techniques for bacterial cells Performing transcriptomic, proteomic, and/or metabolomic analyses Contributing to the production of conference and seminar papers and publications Participating in professional activities, including conferences and seminarsThe successful candidate will:
Hold a doctoral qualification in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field Have a strong background in molecular biology focusing on microbial physiology, gene regulation, or membrane biology. Be familiar with 'omics' level techniques Have demonstrated manuscript preparation skills with a track record of impactful research publications Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear, succinct reports and documentsAbout Monash University
