Our Outdoor Education Program covers students from Prep through to Year 11 and supports the delivery of programs to ELC and Year 12 students. The program is fully mobile and involves a variety of journeys of differing lengths across varying locations both nationally and internationally.

The role

Applications are currently invited for the position of Outdoor Education Program Coordinator to join our team on a full-time, fixed term basis from January to October 2025.

Reporting to the Head of Outdoor Education, the Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all allocated outdoor education programs are planned and implemented in an efficient and safe manner throughout the year. This includes, but is not limited to, the program outline, logistics, organising equipment, determining staffing requirements and managing staff in the field. In addition, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the students whilst en-route and in the field.

As an Outdoor Education Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for:

  • Prepare program outlines for all centre and journey programs in consultation with the Assistant Head of Outdoor Education, paying particular attention to the required curriculum outcomes to be met.
  • Manage general program logistics including booking transport, coordination/booking of hire vehicles, program sites, activity sites and accommodation as required.
  • Organise/order the required food, equipment and/or other specific requirements per program, communicating orders to external providers where applicable.
  • Determine staffing requirements for each centre and journey program and advise the Assistant Head of Outdoor Education to ensure activity supervision ratios are met through the recruitment of additional staff if required.
  • Liaise with teaching and non-teaching colleagues in a proactive and positive manner to further the philosophy and direction of the outdoor education department within the wider school body.
  • Liaise with Parent and Student bodies in a proactive and positive manner to further the philosophy and direction of the outdoor education department.
  • Liaise with staff and parents in regards to pastoral or medical needs of students prior to program as part of our Risk Management strategies.
  • Ensure the completion of reports following all outdoor education programs in order to document stated curriculum outcomes achieved.
  • Ensuring that Outdoor Education department equipment / stock is in good working order, stored and maintained to maximise lifespan.

To be successful and thrive in this position you will require:

  • Qualifications relevant to the delivery and evaluation of Outdoor Education programs, or similar. Diploma of Outdoor Recreation required as a minimum.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering Outdoor Education programs working in a school context is essential.
  • Experience leading groups of mixed ability and aged children, with an understanding of adolescent and childhood behaviour management.
  • High levels of interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to inspire others.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding and experience in crisis management, with a proven record of successfully handling complex issues arising from an Outdoor Education program.
  • Proficient computing skills in standard Microsoft office applications and use of ICT in relation to Outdoor Education.
  • Community Surf Bronze Qualification advantageous.
