About the Program
We are seeking applicants for our 2025 Perioperative Graduate Registered Nurse Program who are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients, who strive to increase their knowledge and skills, are motivated team members and who demonstrate critical thinking whilst embracing the values of our Health Service.
Within our Operating Suite, Graduate Nurses have the opportunity to be experience a range of learning opportunities and care for high acuity patients. St Vincent’s assists individuals to identify strengths and develop strategies for further growth and professional development.
Our Perioperative Graduate Registered Nurse Program is a twelve month, part time (0.8EFT) program, with rotations through the specialty areas which offers supported succession planning that will allow you to achieve your future career goals.
About the Operating Suite
The operating suite consists of 12 theatres including a variety of specialities;
Cardiac, Endovascular, Major Vascular, ENT, Head and Neck, Thoracics, Neurosurgery, Plastic/reconstructive surgeries, General including Hepatobiliary, Colorectal, Bariatric and minimally invasive surgery, Urology and Orthopaedics.
The Anaesthetics department excels in patient care, teaching and research. The department is responsible for providing a variety of anaesthetic techniques to promote a safe patient journey and implement acute care skills; including invasive monitoring of patients, respiratory support and pain management.
The department is renowned for regional anaesthesia including; epidural and nerve blocks.
PACU (Post Anaesthetic Care Unit) is a highly specialised area for management of the post-operative patients and is designed to support patient in the emergence of their anaesthetic; including systematic assessment, pain management and early intervention of post-operative complications.
About the Role
Exciting opportunities exist for Graduate Nurses to join our team at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne in the 2025 Perioperative Graduate Registered Nurse Program.
Under the guidance of the Graduate Nurse Program Coordinators, Practice Development Nurses, Clinical Support Nurses, Nurse Unit Managers and nursing teams, you will be responsible for the delivery of high quality patient care in your specific area.
- Provide high quality patient centred care
- Assess patients throughout their surgical journey
- Observe, report and document relevant nursing findings as per hospital policy and adjust patient care accordingly
- Liaise with patients and multi- disciplinary teams as required or requested to facilitate the delivery of high quality patient care
- Participate in ongoing professional development by attending study days as per the Graduate Nurse Program requirements and undertaking local unit competencies and learning packages
- Administer medication safely in accordance with hospital policies, procedures and protocols

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Candidates must be completing a Bachelor of Nursing in 2024 and be eligible for registration as a Grade 2 Registered Nurse in 2025
- Professional personal presentation and excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to operate within a “patient centred care” framework
- Ability to facilitate team outcomes in a multidisciplinary environment
- Commitment to ongoing education and professional development
- Ability to prioritise patient care and demonstrate appropriate time management skills
- Current National criminal History Check, or willing to obtain
