The Role
The Mechanical Engineer within the Asset Management department will play a key role in the Mechanical field to ensure efficient and effective engineering support and services is provided to the various assets departments on site. The support may be in the form of delivering support and expertise in line with the asset management principles, legislation, applicable governance, and standards, utilizing applicable systems to support the primary asset teams and business. Projects or deliverables might include actions generated from improvements initiatives and/or incident and accident investigations. Your expertise might also be required being involved in and conducting incidents to support our primary value. In this role you will apply your background, technical and communication skills to develop, implement and review asset maintenance management strategies, plans and programs to support the MIM strategic objectives and appropriately manage business risk.

This role is a full time permanent position based residentially in Mount Isa on a 5/2 | 4/3 lifestyle roster. We offer a competitive salary, 13% superannuation, and other monetary benefits but the real value comes from the development and experiences you gain from this role. The newly formed Queensland Metals Surface Engineering team covers an extensive asset portfolio including two concentrators and two smelters.

Your key responsibilities include:
  • Optimising reliability, eliminating losses, maximising utilisation and asset life in a safe and cost-effective manner,
  • Actively support the development and implementation and of the Glencore AMF,
  • Actively apply the asset management principles throughout tasks, initiatives, and projects,
  • Identification of critical risk areas and supporting Capital Expenditure Budget planning process,
  • Review, develop and align maintenance strategies,
  • Providing technical support to operating and maintenance departments,
  • Managing centralized supply contracts related to Crane and Pressure Equipment inspections,
  • Continuously apply fundamental engineering principles to tasks, initiatives, and projects,
  • Identify and execute areas of improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Mentoring of graduate engineers within the Asset Management team and other teams,
  • Work with production, maintenance and other stakeholders to identify and develop engineering solutions to reduce repetitive failures and issues that adversely affect plant operations.

You will have the following skillset and attributes:
  • A tertiary qualification - Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering is essential,
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in mining environment with processing plant experience highly regarded,
  • Able to read, understand and apply the QLD Mining Regulations and Act as well as applicable Australian standards,
  • Investigation, RCA and FMEA application experience,
  • Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Program Suites,
  • Demonstrated competency with leading improvement projects,
  • Experience in contract management and administration is desirable,
  • Experience in development and implementation of maintenance management systems with SAP experience highly regarded,
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills with leadership positions highly regarded,
