We are looking for  motivated student nurses who are looking to build on their clinical skills through dedicated clinical supervision , patient engagement & professional development. This role offers the opportunity to transform your passion into impact.
 
This is expected to be a casual position.

The Role
The role of the Assistant in Nursing is to support registered nurses (RN) and enrolled nurses (EN) in the delivery of general patient care within the limitations specified by their educational qualification standards and practice policy and procedures.

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Provides patient escort if deemed appropriate by the RN
  • Provides patient companionship if deemed appropriate by the RN
  • Provides patient surveillance if deemed appropriate by the RN
  • Applies practical intervention procedures for dementia or behavioural problems if deemed appropriate by the RN
  • Attends to simple dressings as explicitly directed, on a case-by-case basis, if deemed appropriate by the RN
  • Takes and records patients’ observations, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood glucose, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, Height, Weight and BMI on stable patients
  • Under mentorship and direction, support elements of Chronic Disease Management/Prevention (care planning and health assessments) by initiating appropriate lines of questioning, assessment (observations, ECG, ABI and urinalysis) and data entry
  • Support COVID vaccination clinics under direct supervision of an RN
  • Performs routine urinalysis and report’s findings to the RN
  • Sterilisation process
  • ECG Lead placement and spirometry (without medication) on stable patient under supervision of RN
  • Assist with doorstep screener/triage policy to support pandemic plan
  • Update and maintain patient records in a timely manner
  • Consistently be aware of OHS requirements and comply with them

  
Required Knowledge and Experience
The successful applicant will have:

  • Nursing student with at least 12 months course qualifications, Certificate 111 in Health Services Assistance or pre-registration nurses
  • Completion of clinical competencies
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required
  • High Level of interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Self motivated and able to work effectively according to direction
  • High level of customer service
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and the achievement of excellence
