Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Chemist to join our Environmental Laboratory at Perth Airport, WA. In this hands-on role, you’ll lead and oversee comprehensive analytical testing processes, from routine and complex analyses to troubleshooting and method development.

Your expertise will ensure high-quality, timely results, while also providing essential training and support to our team.

Relocation allowance available for the ideal candidate

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performing chemical analysis on water and soil samples including ICP, IC, FIA, Discrete Analyzers, GC-MS, GC-FID and GC P&T.
  • Checking and approving of data/results as per NATA and quality requirements. 
  • Carry out scheduled instrument calibration and detailed maintenance on time.
  • Train and mentor new staff in appropriate methods, instrument calibration and maintenance as per NATA and quality requirements.
  • Perform investigatory and developmental works in connection with new methods of analysis, improvement of existing methods including validation and instrumentation.
  • Involved in continuous improvement projects and initiatives which would improve process flow, productivity, efficiency and safety in the section and/or lab.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe working environment in the laboratory, including developing safety initiatives which would enhance safety further. 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in a senior chemist role within commercial laboratories.
  • Hands-on experience with ICP, IC, FIA, Discrete Analyser, GC MS, GC FID, or GC P&T.
  • Senior level expertise in the operation, optimization, and maintenance of analytical instruments.
  • Strong scientific knowledge relevant to analytical chemistry.
  • Experience as a Management-Authorized Signatory.
  • Experience with NATA/ISO 17025 accreditation and requirements for a chemical testing laboratory.
