Western Sydney is one of the fastest growing regions in our country, with the population of Greater Parramatta alone set to climb by 50 per cent by 2041 and at Great River City Light Rail we want to create new communities, connect great places and help locals and visitors move around and explore what the region has to offer. The new Light Rail will connect Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia, spanning 12 kilometres and utilising state-of-the-art vehicles that delivers comfortable, user-friendly and high-performance services. By 2026, around 28,000 people will use Parramatta Light Rail every day and an estimated 130,000 people will be living within walking distance of light rail stops.

The role

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor you will be responsible for maintenance activities related to substations and overhead wiring line assets for the network. This will include planned preventive maintenance, inspection, reactive repairs related to asset failures. In addition you will be carrying out operational switching and isolation activities and maintenance activities on Traction Power systems as well as Low Voltage Equipment. There will also be an opportunity to provide input to the testing and commissioning teams and developing training documentation and supporting the delivery of the training.

What you bring

In addition to your Electrical Licence and certificate III in either Rail Traction or Distribution Overhead your background will include demonstration experience working in high voltage operational switching and maintenance of switchgear and overhead power lines. This will include demonstrated experience of traction power systems maintenance. Your high-level problem-solving skills will allow you to manage difficult situations including responding to emergencies and restoring assets after incidents. This will be supported by the ability carry out asset inspections and undertake fault finding and ensure asset reliability. Equally important is the ability to engage and build effective working relationships both internally and externally.
