The role
South East Water Strategy and Stakeholder Group is thrilled to be advertising a media focused role in their Marketing, Communications and Engagement team If you're a talented Media and Communications Lead, then we want to hear from you
The Media and Communications Lead's role is to deliver impactful communications focused on our customers, communities, people and environment – innovating with purpose and acting with care, as we deliver essential water and wastewater services.
Some of the key accountabilities will include the following:
- Leading media relations program, including media releases, media enquiries, industry stories and speeches.
- Developing and delivering public relations and media opportunities relating to the organisation’s strategy and thought leadership framework, including Ministerial and industry events.
- Managing and/or assisting with high-quality content for key corporate publications and awards, positioning South East Water as an industry leader.
- Monitoring and reviewing media and industry coverage and preparing reports on a regular basis.
- Contributing to organisational communication activities as required.
- Acting as a Public Information Officer in the event of an incident and participating in an on-call duty roster.
Who are you?
Armed with a tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, journalism or other related field, you'll possess a minimum of 2–5 years’ experience in communications, media or community relations, ideally within in a large complex environment where you've been required to balance proactive and reactive communications activities.
The key skills, knowledge and experience required to be successful for this role include the following:
- Experience leading public information in the event of an issue, incident or crisis.
- Experience in handling sensitive, reactive media and developing relationships with media organisations.
- A demonstrated ability to be a team player and build strong and relationships with others.
- A demonstrated ability to think creatively in continually improving the effectiveness of media and communications to customers, communities and people.
- A demonstrated ability to assess unexpected situations and develop media strategies to navigate through change or uncertainty.
- High-level planning, influencing, negotiation, facilitation and issues and crisis management skills.
- High-level verbal, interpersonal and written skills including an ability to produce communications plans and corporate collateral.

This role is remunerated at a Level 5, which is between $112,377 and $125,011 + super and offers are commensurate with the successful candidates' experience.

As part of a team of media and communications professionals, central to this role are responsibilities for 24/7 safe operation to provide support and minimise disruption of services to customers and as well as ensuring that public health and the environment are not put at risk.
